2001: A Space Odyssey is an early Hudson Soft game released on multiple systems, perhaps one of the better ones leading up to their golden era around 1983 - 1986. JR-100 games are not very common, I think thus far I have only seen two in the wild, even considering Yahoo Auctions "the wild". The first one was Invader, which I found on Yahoo Auctions, but this one I found in Beep in Akihabara. That always adds an element of fun to the find!

In this game, you have to disable HAL by retrieving the parts that belong to it. Once you collect them all, there's sort of a mini-game, but it seems if you don't pass the mini-game, it's game-over for you, so as mini-games go, it's pretty serious! I didn't get that far.

The cover is standard for Hudson Soft at the time, a uniform design with a single base color and black and white to round it out. The color is usually uniform to a system, but this is a light blue/cyan color, while Invader is darker blue.
