Kaeru Shooter is a mock-3D shooting game. As such, it has somewhat different mechanics than most standard space shooters, but if you think that's the only thing that sets this game apart from other space shooters, boy are you ever wrong. In addition to the 3D perspective, your objective is to shoot frogs! And other things I can't quite identify.

I'd played this game on the X1 before I played this game, or else I wouldn't have known, but the PC-8001mkII port is considerably hobbled. The X1 version at least looks like it's moving forward, the lines that make up your tunnel move a half-step forward at a time, whereas these are perfectly still. The only illusion that you're moving forward is that your enemies are getting bigger. To be honest, it's not very convincing!
